So, have I ever told you how odd Sci-Fi conventions are? Just touched on it, did I? Well, it's a pretty surreal experience I have to say. Enjoyable on the whole, but it's a lot of input in a concentrated amount of time. So, there's oh say 1000 Doctor Who fans together in a Hotel, a handful of celebrities that admittedly, probably aren't well known in the larger uninverse, but have a strong command of the audience in attendence and convey enthusiasm, charisma, humor and all the things that make fans so erm, fanatical.
I'm not sure if this is the case with other sci-fi conventions, but it's fairly common at these Doctor Who conventions for the actors and guests to spend some time drinking in the hotel bar and mingle with the guests. So there you are, hanging out with Paul McGann, Sylvester McCoy, Janet Fielding and India Fisher. Sure you might not know them; but in the Doctor Who universe, they're minor deities. The impressive thing to me, is that while many of them are revered or revilled, I've never seen, nor have I recounted any kind of scene with an obsessive fan or anything. I just find it pretty amazing. Though I do have to recount, that I did bump into Paul McGann litterally, which made me then say... "I touched Paul McGann!" Which I think I can share that experience with Erin's Alan Rickman experience at RADA bar. So silly!
There are some interesting characters that attend these 'dos and I don't mean the actors either. It's fairly common for you to be in the dealer room, or just loitering around the hotel and random interpolating people will talk to you about nearly anything (as a matter of fact, as I'm here typing this someone just did that. In this instance, someone just told me that Angel has been cancelled - with options for TV movies. Erin: I'm sorry if I'm the one breaking this to you.).
It is a weird experience in that you meet people that you'll likely see twice a year at these conventions, and when you mention that you might not make it to the next one you get a response of "What? I can't hear you... You ARE coming to the next one. You have to." I'm not quite sure when I joined the cult. It's muy enjoyable, but it just sort of threw me.
I will have a couple of pictures posted in a couple days, but on the whole I didn't get too many, since on the whole, it's not a greatly photogenic bunch. Plus, I'm not big on getting my picture taken with the actors, since I don't feel terribly photogenic. Eh.

So yes; the old homestead here at murgatroit.org is getting a much needed face lift. I'm working at getting more galleries up; and getting other goodies going.
As I understand it, my friend Charles Murgatroit (who ponies up for the bandwidth for this site) has exciting things in the works tracing the wacky history of the his family: the House of Murgatroit.
Something that I just relearned is that I enjoy editing. Strange innit? I'm helping fellow blogger Lauriean of Shasta MacNasty (go ahead, say it in your best Scottish accent; I'll wait for you..... Done? wasn't that fun? I can wait if you'd like to say it again; heck, I think I'll say it too. Okay. SHASTA MAC-NASTY! Done. Really.). Oh yeah Lauriean; she's taking part in something called a "Blog Reading", which to the unintiated, is where a blogger (or web logger) reads to an audience. It's pretty ground shattering stuff apparently. Anyhow, I'm helping her sort through her weblog (and she's far more prolific than me) to choose items to read. It's quite compelling; to be able to construct a monologue out of items written over the last 6 months or so. It really reminds me that I need to check in here with entertaining stories more often. Unfortunately I won't be here to see the reading; I've been wanting to coach her on Shirley Bassey-esque flourishes, Buddy Cole-like asides, and Bea Arthur-calibre comedic pauses. So much potential. But more importantly; I'm going to to warmer climes for a much needed F*** February respite. Namely I dislike the month of February a bit. For being the shortest month, it tends to drag. The weather doesn't help, and it's so easy to develop a malaise that lasts until april. Sigh. Anyhow, I can't wait, and I'm sure I'll have photos to boot. So much to do, and so little time left.
