Had the Chicago Tardis convention this weekend... Saw some cool stuff... oddly enough, it wasn't till tonight while at home that i got a link to this - on the upcoming Christmas Special...
Or perhaps didn't even realize there was a party going on... But I have to say I really diggin' the Gnarls Barkley. Now, I know I couldn't turn around this summer without hearing Crazy; and frankly it was the most refreshing thing I had heard on terrestrial radio in ages.
I bought a couple tunes off the iTunes Music Store back then... And along the way I'd seen a couple videos, but just futzing around on youtube this evening i saw the video for Smiley Faces and was just tickled. Nice cameos by Dennis Hopper and Dean Stockwell (everybody wants Tony).
And while the whole revisionist video thing has been done before (see: weezer's buddy holly); somehow the video still was totally fresh and charming by creating this long running mythos/meme of Gnarls Barkley.
I've mixed things up again here... For whatever reason, the brown color scheme just didn't inspire me to post much. I'm sure that's as good a reason as any.
Anyhow; Exiled in Sovereign City. That's a little portentous as a title for a blog isn't it? Besides what does it mean?
Good, I'm glad you asked. That's been a good bit of what's been occupying my mind these days... I'm working on a story in which I determined a character would be exiled in this City... Well, the more i've fleshed things out, I think the 3 leading characters will be experiencing exile in their own ways... And as it is, I feel like with my mind wandering down the streets of Sovereign City, and not down other avenues as much, it's probably as much a self-imposed exile as well. Yeah that's it.
Oh well that makes sense then (rolls eyes)... I'm not quite sure what this space is for... Maybe I'll throw some snippets here? Maybe I'll just continue with my watching the world go by here. Maybe I'll even find a new meme to comment on.
Duh. It seems like so much has been going on lately, that I haven't really stopped to think about documenting it; I figure I can save that for writing my memoirs, then I can get caught up in telling the story of what's happening then, instead of what's happening to me now. Unfortunately that method of memoir/novel is ground already covered back in the 18th century in The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman. Talk about pre-post-modernism.
Brain hurts a bit at the moment; so i'll just break things down in a powerpoint style list.
New Order is currently on my iTunes. Crystal. Didn't like the song much when it first came out; but it's grown on me several million times over since.
Speaking of iMusicks... I've been burning a whole... or rut... or rudabega... in the Ladytron playlist. I don't know what it is, but their liquid nitro cold sound, has just been resonating a lot for me lately. Especially listening to the Witching Hour and Light & Magic albums. Can't get enough of Destroy everything you touch, Evil, International Dateline, Seventeen, and the Last one standing. All their other stuff too... But those songs are just etched in there. I think seeing their recent show at the Vic is the culprit.
Additionally, They Might Be Giants commercials for Punkin Donuts is constantly burning a hole in my head... ALARM CLOCK CATASTROPHE!!!
Non-audio related... Have been diverting my writing energies lately to a class i've been taking at the park near my apt. So far it's been a great experience. I'm fleshing out some of my characters and places... Still not entirely sure what direction I'm taking it, but luckilly the class is teaching me how not to paint myself into a corner. More details will follow, as my virtual city takes shape.
Work. Work has been work. Even when it's constantly changing, it manages to be more of the same. It's not a bad thing, necessarilly; but there've been a lot of changes in the last weeks, and it sounds like they're not quite over yet.
Photos. I have a ton of photos to post online somehow. I'm not quite sure how I wanna do it yet... either through the site locally here, or if i wanna get all *web2.0* and use flickr.
I've been watching more tv lately. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not; but the Tivo, she is kind, and compiles everything so orderly for me. Current faves: Battlestar Galactica, Doctor Who, Torchwood, Futurama, the Simpsons (covering the geeky stuff). Tivo has also been capturing some Gimme a Break! episodes, which i disturbingly recall pretty completely (Nell's nude tupperware party, Katy's pregnant friend Helen Hunt, the pyramid scheme vacuum cleaners, PORKO the overweight support group, and even the addition of Joey "pre-whoa" Lawrence). For whatever reason, the Tivo also records home improvement shows. Alrighty.
Eight... I forget what eight was for.
I really can't believe October just passed me by. I'm sure i've enjoyed the autumnal ride, but it never seems like i enjoy it long enough.
I really miss my daily train commute. I used to try and keep up reading a book every couple weeks or so... but now with my daily drive out to the sticks, it's been hard to set aside time for reading at home and i feel like my brain is shrinking. It's too bad i'm not one of those folks that can just read and drive... Or do any plethora of activies and drive; whether it's shaving, texting, or doing my hair. I am proficient in having a coffee while driving... that's about the extent of it.
So that's my top 10. Like every other time I go awol for a while, then pick up the blogax and start back up, i'm promising to get a post out here at least once a week. though i can't blame you if you're not holding your breath.
Under new management!
