Clearing the cobwebs

Wow... it's been a while that I've been posting here with any semblance of regularity. Just enjoying a quiet evening on the front porch, the new (to me) Polyphonic Spree album, and wondering to myself why i haven't had anything to post in an ice age.

I have no answers. I barely have questions at the moment. I'm just trying to relax and find my groove.

Why can't American Idol be like this?

Unclear on the concept

So Karl Lagerfeld got his silver studded panties in a bunch because people have finally started calling out the fashion industry for parading walking skeletons up and down catwalks. This from Daily India.com (though i know i spotted the story elsewhere on teh googles).

Chanel fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld refuses to accept the idea of regulating models' weight saying it is revolting.

The 68-year-old won't adhere to the weight rule and is upset that the industry is even considering a ban on skinny models. He cannot see what the fuss is all about, reports contactmusic.com.

He said: 'The idea of regulation is revolting, but so much of the moment. Models are about looks, not about weight. It's part of this new, PC fascism.'

Fascism? Isn't that what the whole fashion industry is based on?

Now, I understand they want thin as rail models that all have the same underdeveloped body types, so it's easiest to show off whatever garish trends they want to unload on the fashion victims of the year (distressed denim anyone?). But then when someone with an ounce of common sense says that "you know; all these anorexic looking models you have are putting unrealistic expectations in the minds of millions of girls and women", he calls it PC Fascism? I think this is reason No 342 why I've never really been that interested in buying designer clothing.

A Diamond is forever; how about subsistence?

Interesting photo essay on the path a diamond takes from the mines of Angola and Sierra Leone and people that are working for the food that keeps them alive to being the bauble on the hand of a Society maven. I've never been too keen on the whole "Diamonds are forever" business (unless it's the James Bond movie) and this just reinforces my whole belief that the diamond=love marketing campaign is incredibly toxic.
